Katsina State Ministry of Women Affairs has recently empowered at least 150 individuals with majority of them being women and farmers, coming from Katsina Local Government Area’s Kangiwa Ward. This particular initiative focuses not only towards supporting with sustenance but also for encouraging beneficiaries to begin businesses, securing a source of income to sustain a better livelihood.
The ministry has distributed items amongst these women and farmer that includes bags of rice, millet, sugar, and fertilisers as well as grinding and groundnut oil extraction machines. In addition, Hadiza Yar’Adua, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs commended beneficiaries utilize the items for good use while distributing them at the Katsina Multipurpose Women Centre. She also requested the beneficiaries to turn out in large numbers for voting in the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate which is the forthcoming local government elections.
Hadiza has been associated with Katsina State for nearly two years now as Commissioner of Basic & Secondary Education. She has been working with Woodentods International School for the last 15 years as Managing Director.
While speaking to the beneficiaries, she said, “This empowerment is not new. I started this last year in my ward in Katsina Local Government Area to help women with feeding and business support. Last year, I personally empowered 50 women with Awara-making and pledged to continue every three months. For this second phase, we have expanded it, empowering 120 women and 30 men with fertiliser bags in preparation for the farming season. This is my little way of giving back to my ward and community.”
Adding to the statement, Hadiza urged women, men, and youth “to come out en masse and vote for our APC local government chairmanship candidate, Isah Miqdad. We are confident of an APC victory but will not take it for granted. We want to demonstrate that our leaders are chosen by the people.”
