Katy Perry to energize AFL Grand Final with Telstra Pre-Game Performance

As part of its efforts to increase the AFL’s entertainment appeal to an international audience, the Australian Football League has announced Hollywood-based singer-songwriter Katy Perry to perform at the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final’s Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment. Originally slated for September 28 in Melbourne’s renowned MCG, Perry’s act speaks volume about the AFL as a major festival that seeks to bring out talents from different parts of the world, and emulate the NFL’s Super Bowl blitz.

Katy Perry, having gained global popularity and extraordinary achievements in her musical career, was ranked as having more than 115 billion streams and 143 million records sold. Her portfolio consists of notable performances at high-profile occasions like NFL Super Bowl XLIX in 2015 and the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup in 2020 cementing her status as an international icon in the entertainment industry.

Her excitement was apparent when she said, “I am so excited to be going back to Australia and then to be going on and performing for 100,000 of the most passionate fans at the Toyota AFL Grand Final at the MCG in September - Oi Oi Oi!”

AFL Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial, Kylie Rogers also welcomed Perry’s selection as a commitment to improving the Grand Final show. “Katy Perry is a particular highlight to this year’s Grand Final telecast, her performance as the Telstra Pre Game Entertainment is something that fans worldwide would love to watch.”
