Kimberly Furnish states AWE to expand in Eleuthera

In a statement, Kimberly Furnish, the UNITED States Chargé d’Affaires has said that the Academy of Women Entrepreneurs shall get expanded to The Bahamas’ 5th island ‘Eleuthera’. During the ceremony of a total of 51 women entrepreneurs’ graduation from the programme, Kimberly’s comment has been stated in the event at Pelican Bay Resort in Grand Bahama.

Since the inception, a total of 325 women in The Bahamas have completed the programme that aids women to develop entrepreneurship. Kimberly also stated that the women-represented small businesses’ diverse range Grand Bahama was really impressive that also involved awareness about mammogram, beauty, health and fitness, food and catering, as well as environmentally friendly services.

She said, “Women are important members of society; we are about 50 percent of society, and yet still not 50 percent of the growth. So, for the US Embassy, it is a priority to help empower and bring women on equal footing. I was excited to be in a group of amazing women, meeting new people and learning new things and the camaraderie.”

Mammogram Access Programme (MAP) Founder Nikea Watson added to the statement, said that the programme has helped her to develop an action plan. She added, “It opened my imagination to turn my non-profit into something that can raise revenue to support itself.”
