The Lagos State Public Procurement Agency and UN Women have teamed together to offer training and assistance to women-owned companies in an attempt to advance gender equality and inclusive economic empowerment. The partnership intends to make it possible for these companies to take advantage of public procurement possibilities in Lagos State.
The agency's Director-General, Mr. Fatai Onafowote, spoke at the program's inaugural ceremony and emphasised the economic disadvantage that many women in the state have, particularly when it comes to possibilities for public procurement. He emphasised the necessity for societal stability and the need of equipping women and young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully compete for employment opportunities.
The Lagos State Government has taken action to focus on gender equality, social inclusion, and aiding disadvantaged groups under the new policy. Gender equality and youth empowerment have been included to the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda, underscoring the government's dedication to creating a supportive environment for women-owned enterprises and other disadvantaged groups.
The Lagos State Public Procurement Agency and UN Women have collaborated on projects that include training and awareness-raising initiatives for women-owned companies, procurement specialists, and accounting officials from various government ministries. By giving women business owners better access to possibilities in public procurement, the goal is to secure their economic emancipation.
The Lagos State Government has received commendation from Mr Lansana Wonneh, the UN Women deputy country representative, for its active involvement in advancing affirmative procurement efforts in the state.
The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation's Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, underlined the government's dedication to fostering a climate that promotes gender equality and economic development for everyone.
