Lisbon Web Summit 2023 Saw 43% Women Attendees, 38% Female Speakers

Web Summit, the world's leading technology conference, began its 2023 edition in the Altice Arena in Lisbon, with a record 70,236 people from 153 nations. This year's program has a record-breaking 2,608 firms, with women founding one-third of them, making it the biggest startup program to history.

The conference, which is recognized for its dedication to diversity, claims that 43 percent of participants and more than 38 percent of speakers are women, a substantial step toward gender parity. The event will feature 321 worldwide partners, 32 trade delegations, and 37 community partners, stressing its commitment to helping underrepresented groups in the technology industry.

Web Summit increased its floor size by 5%, totaling around 215,000 square meters, or 1,099 tennis courts. There are 1,180 investor-to-startup meetings on the calendar, 70 seminars, 17 pitch competition rounds, and 25 evening events.

Notably, a record-breaking 2,608 entrepreneurs from 93 countries will present ideas in a variety of industries, with over 250 taking part in the Impact program, which focuses on positive community impact. Nearly 100 Mentor Hour seminars encompassing fields such as SaaS, AI, healthtech, finance, and sustainability will benefit over 800 entrepreneurs.

Web Summit CEO Katherine Maher emphasized the event's vital role in furthering crucial debates about technology, society, and innovation. Web Summit 2023 is set to be a forum for determining the future of the tech environment, with 806 speakers from 50 nations and 2,129 media representatives in attendance.

Web Summit seeks to develop genuine relationships as the event proceeds, with organizers anticipating more than 85 percent hotel occupancy around Lisbon. The effect of the summit goes beyond conversations, with insights from the State of Gender Equity in Tech report, an investor mood survey, and collaborations with 20 media organizations all contributing to the overall experience.
