Loyola Law School Appoints Brietta Clark as First Female Dean

Loyola Marymount University has named Brietta Clark as the permanent dean of Loyola Law School, making her the institution's first female and Black dean in its illustrious history. Brietta, who has been acting as interim dean since June, brings to the post a depth of expertise and devotion.

Brietta has been a member of the Loyola Law School faculty since 2001, and her dedication to academic quality, equal access to education, and the development of social justice concerns is consistent with the institution's principles. She stated her intention to make Loyola Law School her "professional home," noting the transforming influence of the faculty and diverse student population.

Brietta previously served as assistant dean for faculty and co-chaired the law school's strategic planning group. Her substantial study on health care delivery and funding in the United States has established her as a renowned expert in health law and bioethics. Notably, she successfully generated over $6.3 million in scholarship funds during her temporary stint, demonstrating her leadership and fundraising ability.

Loyola Marymount University's executive vice president and provost, Thomas Poon, complimented Clark's experience, enthusiasm for research and instruction, and dedication to diversity and inclusion, stressing her role in moving the law school to a future of success and innovation.

Brietta worked in the Los Angeles office of Sidley Austin LLP before joining Loyola Law School, adding to her excellent legal expertise.
