A licenced digital asset exchange called Luno announced several leadership changes, including the appointment of a new general manager for APAC and a new country manager.
On May 15, 2023, David Low, who has held the APAC General Manager role since August 2018, will take a career sabbatical and leave his position. Early in 2018, he began working with Luno Malaysia as the country manager.
Aaron Tang, who joined Luno Malaysia in 2018 as marketing and community lead, will then take over as APAC general manager beginning on May 15. He most recently held the post of Country Manager for Luno Malaysia, where he has worked since August 2019.
Scarlett Chai, who previously held the positions of Marketing & Partnerships Lead from 2019 to 2021 and Marketing Manager since July 2021, will take over as the new Country Manager for Luno Malaysia with immediate effect.
In March 2018, David promoted the cryptocurrency sector and oversaw Luno's regional development beyond Malaysia by securing regulatory licences and establishing Luno's operations in other APAC regions. "Being allowed to oversee Luno's APAC companies has been an honour. I've chosen to take a professional sabbatical after 5 years and hand the reins over to the following line of leadership', he stated.
Aaron has been collaborating with David to establish Luno's local presence and get Luno Malaysia's regulatory clearance from the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) as part of the pioneering team in Malaysia. Since then, he has added more than 60 staff to the local team, and the site has over 800,000 Malaysian users registered.
Aaron will be responsible for managing regional market operations for Luno and expanding the company in markets around the APAC region in his capacity as the company's general manager for the area.
"I am thankful for the opportunity, and I look forward to growing Luno's business at the regional level, from strengthening ties with industry stakeholders to advancing investor awareness efforts across the APAC markets," stated Aaron.
For the past four years, Scarlett has been in charge of Luno Malaysia's marketing activities. She has led the establishment of Women-in-Crypto, a forum for women to learn about cryptocurrency, and most recently, she has led Move with Luno, the company's most integrated brand campaign. These are just a few of her many accomplishments.
Scarlett has also participated in important initiatives including the integration of Luno with banking and payment partners and the application for regulatory approval in Malaysia.
Scarlett added, "I aim to build on the work that both David and Aaron have contributed to, and I look forward to increasing awareness, education, and accessibility of crypto investment for all Malaysians.”
Across nine authorized digital assets in Malaysia, Luno presently holds more than US$270.1 million (RM1.2 billion) in value on behalf of its clients.
