The Women in Business initiative of the Malinauskas Labor Government has reached a historic milestone, having assisted around 1000 South Australian women in its first year of operation. The $4 million project, coordinated by Minister Michaels, was set to launch in November 2022 with the goal of providing mentorship, networking, and upskilling opportunities to help women overcome the hurdles of starting and operating businesses.
The Women in Business Advisory Program, delivered in collaboration with Behind Closed Doors; the Women in Business Foundations Program, delivered by Adelaide Business Hub; and the HERstory: Business Collective event series, delivered in collaboration with the Port Adelaide Football Club were all part of the program.
Over 900 women took part in these streams, with 36% coming from remote South Australia and 40% working as lone merchants. The project addressed crucial topics such as corporate governance, the formation of an advisory board, export preparation, and overall business development.
Andrea Michaels, Minister for Women and Business, stressed the government's commitment to assisting women entrepreneurs, recognizing the special hurdles they confront. "Creating opportunities for more women to start and grow their own businesses is something I'm really passionate about, and I'm looking forward to creating more opportunities for more women in 2024," she said.
Participants' testimonials, such as Irena Melino of Wild Ivy Studio and Natalie Oliveri of Creative Therapy Adelaide, emphasized the program's efficacy in forging relationships and boosting personal growth.
As the project enters its second year, the Malinauskas Government is committed to assisting small companies and guaranteeing the program's sustained success.
