Marina Wheeler Joins Labour as Whistleblowing Adviser

The Labour Party made an important announcement on October 8, 2023 naming Marina Wheeler as a high-profile consultant to help design its whistleblower policy. Marina Wheeler, a well-known attorney and the ex-wife of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will serve as "whistleblowing tsar."

Her major responsibility will be to advise on suggested legislation aimed at better protecting women suffering workplace harassment.

Labour's goal is to allow women who have been subjected to workplace abuse the status of whistleblowers, in order to encourage them to disclose occurrences without fear of repercussions on their careers.

Marina Wheeler acknowledged her pride in helping to Labour's efforts to protect women in an exclusive conversation with The Independent. She acknowledged the prevalent issue of sexual harassment and assault in the workplace, highlighting the severe consequences for women who come up.

This is the second high-profile recruitment from outside of politics to Sir Keir Starmer's team. Sue Gray, a veteran civil servant, had previously joined as his chief of staff. Gray is well-known for her work on the Downing Street report on lockdown parties during Boris Johnson's term as Prime Minister.
