McDonald's UAE opens All-Female, Solar-Powered Restaurant

By: GWL Team | Wednesday, 2 August 2023

In Umm Suqeim 2, Dubai, McDonald's UAE has established its 197th eatery in the Emirates. This significant debut is remarkable since the restaurant is run exclusively by female staff, a first for the company in the UAE. The new location also supports gender diversity and is powered in part by solar energy, keeping with McDonald's UAE's dedication to a cleaner future.

Thanks to the efforts of its female-led staff, the restaurant will be open 24 hours a day serving the nation's favourite meals and McCafé items. This programme is a follow-up to the 2020 launch of the McDonald's UAE Women Leadership Network, which is committed to assisting female team members at the company.

The CEO of McDonald's UAE, Walid Fakih, emphasised the company's emphasis on people and the environment and expressed delight in its commitment to emancipating women and promoting equality across its business activities. The restaurant's half solar panels and electric car charging stations serve as additional proof of its dedication to sustainability. Since 2011, McDonald's UAE has been aggressively reducing its carbon footprint by recycling wasted cooking oil into BioDiesel for its vehicles.

The Umm Suqeim restaurant has launched curbside ordering, allowing guests to make orders digitally from designated parking places for extra convenience, in addition to its gender-inclusive and ecological efforts. Customers may now place orders in person, via the drive-thru, or through the McDonald's UAE App, and the restaurant is now open around-the-clock.

Since its establishment in the nation in 1994, McDonald's UAE has served the local population at over 190 of its outlets. The company is dedicated to upholding the high calibre of its goods and is actively involved in social responsibility activities. One such endeavour is collaborating with Emirates Red Crescent on philanthropic and humanitarian projects.

McDonald's UAE works with Emirates Environmental Group to execute green initiatives, such as the biodiesel programme introduced in 2011, in order to improve community well-being and advance sustainability. Through this programme, leftover cooking oil from restaurants is completely converted into biodiesel, which powers the company's logistics fleet and dramatically lowers carbon emissions.
