Melinda Gates to donate $1 billion for US' Women & Families

Those individuals and organisations working on behalf of women and families across the world, shall get a donation of $1 billion in a span of next two years from Melinda French Gates, as per her statement. This shall also include reproductive rights in the United States.

This initiative underlines her vow she took during her resignation from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation about focusing on women and families. Melinda is one of the well-known philanthropic supporters of gender equity in the US. On May 28, 2024, she has passed one statement to The New York Times showing her frustrated over the years for the people who say it’s not the right time to talk about gender equality.

Melinda Gates said, “Decades of research on economics, well-being and governance make it clear that investing in women and girls benefits everyone. Women in 14 states have lost the right to terminate a pregnancy under almost any circumstances. We remain the only advanced economy without any form of national paid family leave. And the number of teenage girls experiencing suicidal thoughts and persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness is at a decade high.”

After she stepped down from Gates foundation, Melinda’s commitment for the women/girls have risen and her vow for women empowerment makes her a true philanthropist.
