The UAE's involvement in the UK’s Agriculture Breakthrough Initiative was officially confirmed by the Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, HE Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri. The main objective of the effort is to make climate-resilient, sustainable agriculture the most alluring and popular choice for farmers throughout the world by 2030.
HE Mariam Almheiri emphasized the significance of cooperation and advancement in addressing climate change during the AIM for Climate Ministerial session of the AIM for Climate Summit (AIM4C) in Washington DC, the United States, where the announcement was made.
“HE The UAE is pleased to announce that it will join the Agriculture Breakthrough, acknowledging that its objectives directly align with AIM for Climate and vice versa," said Mariam Almheiri. “Both offer a venue for group action and reciprocal advancement, giving us the chance to modernize and decarbonize while preserving our future food production.”
By 2030, the goal of the Agriculture Breakthrough Initiative, which was initially introduced at COP26 in Glasgow, is for climate-resilient, sustainable agriculture to be the most alluring and extensively used alternative for farmers all over the world. The UAE's involvement in the effort will improve global cooperation, speed up the adoption of clean technology, and reduce costs in the agriculture industry.
At the AIM4C Summit, which is co-led by the UAE and the US, HE Almheiri is in charge of the MOCCAE delegation. The summit, which has a rich agenda of sessions and meetings, has successfully catalyzed greater investment in agricultural R&D and innovation, elevating global aspirations, and empowering policymakers to make informed decisions based on scientific data for the betterment of people around the world.
At a Ministerial Meeting on the Agriculture Breakthrough on the second day of the AIM4C Summit, HE Almheiri presented the UAE's advancements in the agricultural sector since COP26 along with high-level speakers from the FAO, World Bank, and other organizations. The UK-sponsored workshop provided a venue for agricultural ministers to establish ambitious targets for the 2024 agricultural Breakthrough Priority Actions, which will be unveiled at COP28 in Dubai later this year. The meeting's purpose was to promote global ambition in agriculture technology research and deployment.
A concurrent Business Engagement roundtable for business executives from the US food sector was hosted by the UAE Embassy in Washington. HE Almheiri emphasized UAE agri-tech business opportunities and urged more US investment in the UAE at the discussion.
She reaffirmed the UAE's 2051 goal, which calls for it to become a global leader in food security driven by innovation. HE Almheiri also emphasized the significance of promoting international agribusiness commerce, diversifying food supplies abroad, and improving domestic food security through sustainable technologies.
The High-Level Plenary "Breaking Barriers: Insights from Trailblazing Women in Science" featured participation from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment's Assistant Undersecretary for the Food Diversity Sector, HE Mohammed Mousa Alameeri, emphasized the value of women's leadership in advancing climate action as well as the UAE's advancements in promoting gender equality, including equal pay for equal work, expanded maternity leave, and the introduction of paternity leave.
Higher agricultural output, better livelihoods, biodiversity preservation, conservation of natural resources, and higher climate change resistance are all results of these accomplishments.
