Mobility Outlook, a platform of CarTrade Tech that focuses on the mobility ecosystem, honoured the spirit of women in the automotive and aviation sectors at the second edition of "Women in Mobility."

Sunjay Kapur, Chairman of Sona Comstar and President of the ACMA, as well as Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM, ASDC, and VE Commercial Vehicles, were present at the event, which was sponsored by MG Motor India.

The Chief Commercial Officer of MG Motor India, Gaurav Gupta, stated that this problem is highly significant to MG. In fact, this is a normal aspect of life at MG. He also highlighted Prerna, Genesis, Drive Her Back, Changemakers, Womentorshop, and Saarthi as examples of the company's initiatives to help women.

The team at MG Motor India quickly approved the Women in Mobility concept, according to Banwari Lal Sharma, CEO of CarTrade Tech's consumer division. Rajeev Chaba, President & MD, MG Motor India, just asked us why we were doing what we were doing. I clearly remember telling them how crucial diversity is to building a productive team. Everything we do on a daily basis is for our benefit, and culture is no different. I responded to Rajeev and Gaurav with this.

Runa Ahlawat, the head of communications at MG Motor India, emphasised the company's objective to reach 50% diversity over the coming few years. It is presently 37% in MG's Halol facility in Gujarat, where women are involved in many aspects of car production.

While men and women are made differently, should this lead to differing treatment of the two? The Women of MG did an amazing job, from handling heavy weaponry to flawlessly painting cars! Our whole goal has been and continues to be making it possible for women to work in the automobile business, said Runa.

Rajeev Chaba, MD & President, MG Motor India, said: "At MG, you will find varied personalities working in a cohesive environment since we consider variation does not divide but connects us."

Coffee Table Book

All of the "Women In Mobility" contestants from season two were featured in a coffee table book that was released that evening. The journeys of these female leaders and the challenges they faced are the main topics of the book.

Vinod claims that SIAM will chart the representation of women in the car industry. According to the speaker, the Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) is identifying skill shortages in employable women and is preparing to organise to fill them. Vinod was selected to head ASDC in 2021.

The industry needs to honour more women, in Sunjay’s opinion. With the type of change occurring in the automobile business, he continued, "opportunities are growing.

Champions of Diversity

Since Women in Mobility focuses on people, it was important to see how organisations supported female CEOs and employees. As a result, a brand-new initiative known as "Champions of Diversity (CoD)" was established under the Women in Mobility umbrella. This will pay tribute to organisations that embrace diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

This year, Padmini VNA Mechatronics, Continental India, Dana TM4 India, Valeo India, and Cooper Corporation were recognised for their creative workplace practises.

The current edition was only open to vendors; however, the 2019 edition will also be open to vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, and startups that promote women's empowerment.

Deepangshu Dev Sarmah, founding editor of Mobility Outlook, said, "Some of you would recall that I had made a pledge regarding Champions Of Diversity during the finale of the first season of Women in Mobility. So, the focus of the Champions of Diversity initiative will be on the efforts made by the organisations to increase the diversity of their teams. I honestly believe that CoD has a very long way to go even if we are honouring five vendors.
