Ms Cynthia McCaffery to be the new UNICEF Representative to India beginning in October 2022

According to sources, Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey started on October 25, 2022, as the new UNICEF Representative to India. She previously served as UNICEF's representative in China. As Director of the Office of Innovation and Director and Chief of Staff of the Office of the Executive Director at UNICEF Headquarters, she has also held such positions. The new UNICEF Representative in India, Ms. Cynthia McCaffery, met Mr. Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, today, according to the information supplied.

Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey said, “India has made substantive progress for children, young people, and women over the past decades. I look forward to building on UNICEF’s strong partnership with the Government of India and working together across India to advance the rights of every child.”

About Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey

Ms. McCaffrey is American and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Texas at Austin's LBJ School. With the International Rescue Committee, she began her career in international development in 1988. 

Career of Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey

Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey has experience managing projects related to Africa, debt relief, health, education, and post-conflict situations while working in the World Bank's office of the U.S. Executive Director. Her previous positions included those in the Administrator's Office, the Center for Democracy and Governance, and the Bureau for Legislative and Public Affairs at the United States Agency for International Development. In 1995, Ms. McCaffrey was chosen as a White House Fellow.
