By 32 runs, New Zealand Women secured their win, acquiring very first title in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup on Sunday at Dubai International Stadium. Securing three wickets each, Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mair stopped New Zealand at 126/9 in the second innings. Up a score of 158/5, the first innings saw NZ.
After winning the toss, South Africa asked Team New Zealand to bat first, to which Georgia Plimmer and Suzie Bates gave a strong start to the team. However, Georgia’s attempted 6 was caught by Sune Luus on a delivery by Marizanne. Soon being bowled by Nonkululeko Mlaba, Suzie’s wicket followed, after skipper Sophie Devine losing her wicket next.
Keeping a strong control, South African Bowlers didn’t allow any boundaries between overs 5.4 and 13.5. Halliday while Amelia building a strong partnership of 57 runs until she was caught by Anneke Bosch. At the end of the first innings, Maddy Green’s scored a 6 that brought New Zealand’s score to 158.
Laura Wolvaardt (33), the South African skipper and Tazmin Brits (17) secured the place of highest scorers for their side. In addition, the powerplay witnessed Team SA score 47 runs but Tazmin lost her wicket in the next over Fran Jonas.
In conclusion, SA lost control of the match, without being able to regain it. On the other hand, New Zealand’s victory was sealed by Carson.
