Nigeria's Zenith Bank appoints Dr. Adora as First Female GMD

Nigerian financial institution, Zenith Bank Plc has announced the appointed of Dr. Adaora Umeoji as the new Group Managing Director. Her appointment will be effective June 1, 2024.

On Tuesday the bank filed a statement indicating the appointment with the Nigerian Exchange Limited. The next step will be to receive the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The news of Dr. Adora’s appointment has been received with much excitement among the minority shareholders community. The move has been hailed by some with some as a forward-looking one.                                                                  

Matthew Akinlade, President, Noble Shareholders Association said, “The woman is eminently qualified. I have been going through her profile, even her experience with Zenith Bank. I have never met her, but going through her profile, I felt satisfied.”              

In the statement he also said that there is a need to better the dividend payments when Dr. Adora begins her term. 

President, Pragmatic Shareholders Association, Bisi Bakare, President, Pragmatic Shareholders Association also hailed Dr. Adora’s appointment as a welcome move by the financial institution.        

Dr. Adora will begin her term taking over the role from Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the current GMD, whose time in office expires on May 31.
