By the year 2027, the federal government has officially confirmed to empower a total of 10 million women economically, ensuring that they play a pivotal role in the economic transformation of Nigeria. This aligns with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that quantifies to $1 trillion economy where females are being earmarked to be national productivity’s key contributors.

The statement was release by Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs on February 9, 2025 in Abuja while celebrating the President’s 100 days in office. Imaan stated that women shall be equipped with tool that are required for them to build sustainable enterprises as well as make contributions meaningfully to economic growth through financial literacy, business development, and cooperative structures.

The minister said that the MOWA-SARA Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programme that is designated for the empowerment of females will train 500,000 women in total since the economic empowerment continues to be one of the most effective ways for uplifting women, dismantling systemic barriers, limiting their potential. This will happen in a partnership with WEMA Bank.

Adding to the statement, she said, “We have launched a food intervention program for women and vulnerable groups after recognising the economic hardships that many families are facing. At the core of our efforts is a bold and ambitious vision – to empower 10 million women economically by 2027, ensuring they play a vital role in Nigeria’s economic transformation. This aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy, where women are key contributors to national productivity. We have already taken decisive steps toward achieving this, with the commencement of implementation of the World Bank-supported Nigeria for Women Scale-Up Project, which targets 4.5 million women across all 36 states and the FCT.”
