Nigerian Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, delivered a compelling call to action at the 2025 Munich Security Conference, urging for greater gender equity and inclusive governance in the pursuit of global peace and security.

Senator Natasha spoke alongside global leaders like President Vjosa Osmani of Kosovo and former Prime Minister Sanna Marin of Finland at the 2025 Munich Security Conference.

She brought a unique African perspective to the conversation on global peace and security. In a statement from her chief press secretary, Israel Arogbonlo, Senator highlighted the struggles and triumphs of women in politics and decision-making in Nigeria and beyond.

The discussion addressed the growing challenges women face in leadership, including the resurgence of gender-based discrimination. The role of women in peacebuilding efforts worldwide was a key focus of the conversation.

The Kogi lawmaker emphasized the importance of breaking systemic barriers that hinder women’s leadership participation. She called for stronger policies to protect women from political violence and discrimination.

Senator Natasha stated, "The backlash against gender inclusivity in politics and security is not only a setback for women but for global development as a whole. The world must move beyond mere rhetoric and take decisive action to ensure that women are not just participants in peace and security discussions, but are granted equal opportunities to lead and shape policies."

Senator Natasha participation at the 2025 Munich Security Conference (MSC) highlights her growing influence as a champion for women’s rights, governance reforms, and inclusive security policies. Her advocacy aligns with global efforts to combat gender regression and ensure women are central to decision-making in peace and security matters.

At the conclusion of the MSC, there was a clear consensus among panellists and global delegates: a collective and sustained effort is needed to counteract gender backlash and empower women in shaping the future of global peace and security.

The senator’s powerful contributions at the MSC 2025 reaffirm her position as a transformative leader both in Nigeria and on the global stage.
