During the Ryan Field rebuild, Northwest spent $133 million for business that are owned by minority and women in contract awards. Currently, NU is meeting its 35% M/WBE contracting quota which is a commitment that has been made in the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) of the University with the city.

It has been projected by NU that the stadium rebuild shall bring forth $208 million in total in contracts for minority- and women-owned businesses. Presenting its progress, the university has shown its commitment at the Minority, Women, Disadvantage and Evanston Business Enterprises committee every month throughout the process of stadium rebuild.

The committee chair Ald. Bobby Burns (5th) said, “We’ve been closely monitoring their progress and appreciate the regular updates and responses to our questions. This partnership has been productive, and we look forward to seeing these commitments benefit the community as the project moves forward toward the new stadium opening.”

Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Foundation member Pat Ryan Jr. added, “It has always been critical to the Ryan Family and Northwestern that an important legacy of the new Ryan Field project be economic empowerment and fostering social mobility for historically marginalized communities in Evanston.”
