Number of Women Entrepreneurs in Barcelona Increases by 2% Since 2023: MDO Report

A new report entitled as ‘Entrepreneurship in Barcelona’ has been published by Municipal Data Office (MDO) stating a 2 per cent increase of women entrepreneurs in comparison to 2023, reaching to 42 per cent.

2024 is the 7th year of Municipal Data Office’s (OMD) report publishing that includes the main indicators for entrepreneurship in 2022. The findings in the report gives an idea of complementary vision of the information that has been publishing as part of an international source of statistics on entrepreneurship, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) but that to, without data at a municipal level.

As per the GEM project’s methodology, entrepreneurs are getting identified by considering women with self-employment in addition to starting their business within a span of 42 months.

Some of the significant insights from the report includes: Barcelona has 40,875 entrepreneurs as an estimated total in the year 2022, who were living in the city in which almost 2/3 of the number for the metropolitan area is 65 per cent and more than a quarter for Catalonia is 26 per cent; The city counted to 17,175 female entrepreneurs and 23,700 male entrepreneurs in 2022; There’s a 2 per cent increase in the no. of women entrepreneurs from 2022 and became 42 per cent now.
