The Pan-African and Feminist Initiative for Philanthropies has been formally established by TrustAfrica and Urgent Action Fund-Africa in collaboration with the Coalition for the Dialogue about Africa (CoDA). The ceremony took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on June 6, 2023.

Dr. Ebrima Sall, executive director of TrustAfrica, Ms. Tsitsi Midzi, executive director of UAF-Africa, and Souad Aden Osman, executive director of the CoDA, all spoke at the occasion. Dre Tendai Mhizha and Briggs Bomba, Schedule Director of TrustAfrica, mediated the subsequent debates.

The significance of funding feminist movements so they may take effective action for women in Africa was highlighted by every attendee. They also praised the African diaspora for taking the lead in mobilizing and raising the money required to carry out activities that prioritize the welfare of women.

The first conference, which was held by Dr. Said Adejumobi of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), was one of the launch's most significant events. The latter discussed philanthropies that support women's and Pan-African causes as well as the financing of important initiatives on a continental level.

Dr. Said Adejumobi emphasized the need of raising money for organizations working to protect and advance women in Africa.

Testimonies and constructive discussions between experts on philanthropic matters and the contribution of women to Africa's sustainable development goals marked the opening of the Pan-African and Feminist Initiative for Philanthropy.

On the schedule was also a news conference that was covered by local and international media. Dr. Ebrima Sall, Tsitsi Midzi, Coumba Touré, President of the Board of Directors of TrustAfrica, and Atieno Odhiambo, President of the Committee of UAF-Africa addressed the media at the press conference and discussed the ambitious goal of raising $500,000,000 over the next five years and $1 billion over the next ten years. They also urged collaboration in order to achieve this significant goal.

You may remember that in July 2022, several philanthropic activists gathered in Naivasha, Kenya, to brainstorm ideas for the Pan-African and feminist philanthropy transformation initiative. 50 Pan-African and feminist activists formed from this conference with the goal of advancing political opinions, language, and practices around Pan-African and feminist philanthropies founded on cooperation, reciprocity, and collective humanity.
