The Philippines have asked United Nations Security Council to take Filipino women’s compassion into consideration and appoint highly trained and experienced female peacekeepers to ease conflict in hot spots across the globe.

Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, while speaking in the Security Council’s regular session, said that the country is all set to share its experience at Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in order to build peace.

Maria said in her statement, “We wish to increase our footprint with more professional peacekeepers on the ground, most especially highly trained women peacekeepers with nothing to prove and much compassion to share.”

She also emphasised on Philippines’ “success story” in creating the BARMM that includes women as educators, negotiators, researchers, in addition to community organizers.

Maria added, “We forged what is now BARMM across half a century of fighting between war in factions and clansmen, and both against an inclusive democracy. Peace is possible and patience-based, they are the best way forward and the least hurt and lost.”

She stated that women are the core of this mission and the art of peacemaking begins at home and comes out of the hands of women.

This initiative by Philippines shall benefit the Filipino women and give them a platform to showcase their potential along with their skills.
