Progress, the renowned provider of application development and infrastructure software, has recently announced the distinguished recipients of its Women in STEM Scholarship Series for the year 2023 in both the United States and Bulgaria. This scholarship series, established in 2019, aims to create opportunities for aspiring students who identify as women and wish to pursue studies in computer science, software engineering, IT, and computer information systems.
Yogesh Gupta, the CEO of Progress, expressed his admiration for the exceptional young women who exhibit a passion for computer science and a strong desire to leverage their skills to bring about positive change in the world. One of the notable scholarships awarded is the Mary Székely Scholarship for Women in STEM, which is a prestigious, four-year renewable scholarship worth $10,000. Julie Wang, a standout Newton South High School alumnus from Newton, Massachusetts, who has been admitted to Brown University and plans to specialise in computer science, has been awarded the scholarship this year. Wang's high school journey was marked by academic excellence and active leadership roles, including serving as a student leader for the Green Students Movement and acting as a group leader in Technovation Girls an initiative where young women develop mobile apps addressing real-world issues. Beyond her academic pursuits, Wang actively participated in MIT's Beaver Works Summer Institute and volunteered at Kode with Klossy's summer coding camps. Additionally, her artistic talents were recognized when she was named the 2020 Doodle for Google Massachusetts Winner.
In Bulgaria, the Women in Tech Scholarship Program, established in 2022, has awarded two annual scholarships worth BGN 3,000 each. This year's deserving recipients are Alisa Dermendzhiyska and Elitsa Yotkova. Dermendzhiyska, currently studying computer systems and technologies at the Technical University in Sofia, has showcased remarkable growth in her technological and leadership skills while actively contributing to her local community.
Alongside her academic commitments, she served as a programming instructor at Logiscool Bulgaria an internationally recognized coding school program for students aged 6 to 18 and dedicated her time as a math tutor. Dermendzhiyska has several certificates to strengthen her application development abilities, including Programming Fundamentals with JavaScript and Programming Fundamentals with C#.
Elitsa Yotkova, studying computer science at Sofia University's "St. Kliment Ohridski," Faculty of Informatics and Mathematics, has excelled academically and hired in a number of extracurricular stirs. She completed an internship with Digital Lights, where she honed her skills as a junior software developer. Yotkova has also contributed her time as a volunteer on the FMI Students Council and currently serves as a teaching assistant. She was nominated by Sofia University, "St. Kliment Ohridski," for the 2022 Student of the Year award due to her remarkable accomplishments.
Furthermore, Progress demonstrates its commitment to supporting education by contributing funds to the scholarship program at the American University of Bulgaria. This year, the company donated $8,000 to Bozhana Georgieva, a computer science major who consistently excels academically and receives recognition for her achievements.
In addition to these accomplishments, Progress is happy to announce the opening of the application season for the 2023 Akanksha Scholarship for Women in STEM in India. The business urges hopeful Indian women to take advantage of this chance by submitting their applications prior to the deadline on Friday, July 7.
