A Jersey technology and business consulting practice ‘Prosperity 24/7’ has released its first gender pay gap report, dedicated to the technology sector where it has been found that women working in this landscape in Jersey are paid ‘fractionally more’, representing only 21% of the workforce.
Since Pay gap reporting is not considered to be a legal requirement in Jersey and keeping UK in frame, it only applies to those firms that has over 250 employees. The report says, the employees who are getting paid more within this sector were men by 80% in comparison to the 20% of females. However, the lowest paid employees were males i.e., 93% and female with 7%.
Prosperity 24/7's chief operating officer Geraldine Evans stated, “We believe that reporting on the gender pay gap is an essential tool to ensure transparency and drive progress. The experimental earnings and gender pay gap report produced by Statistics Jersey in June 2023 highlighted that the gender pay gap was highest in the information and communications sector at 28% and we wanted to see how we compare.”
Additionally, HR Director of Prosperity 247 Marisa Hamon added, “It is understandable that there is a gap in a traditionally male dominated sector such as IT. Attracting female talent to the IT consultancy industry remains a considerable challenge with cultural bias often associating men with technical roles which discourages women from pursuing IT careers.”
