QUT preparing women for 2024 Australia elections

The QUT Pathways to Politics for Women program will train the Queensland women who want to stand in the next year's local and state elections for which the applications will be open till May 1. This program aims to assist those female aspires who will stand for the upcoming elections for all levels of government. This initiative will train them to improve the skills needed for them.

Professor Vicky Browning, the program director mentioned that this initiative will help the participants to gain their confidence and will also help to create strong networks with the top party officials. He added that this initiative will build knowledge about politics and their campaigning but it will also have a huge impact on their beliefs about themselves.

The initiative will sponsor the regional and rural women to go and attend the program in Brisbane that will have two-day workshops for three months in addition to four virtual classrooms, access to an online learning platform, networking events, and coaching sessions.

The University of Melbourne started the independent programs in 2016 that is based at the Australian Universities and are modeled on the Pathways to Politics Program for Women with the Women Leadership Institute Australia and the Trawalla Foundation. The Queensland program is also a part of this national network. A Pathways to Politics for Women Knowledge Hub has also been developed by this network.

To address the underpresendentation of women in Australian politics, the foundation University of Melbourne program was established in consultation with the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School, using the long-running "From Harvard Square to the Oval Office".
