Sally Buzbee Steps Down position as Executive Director at Washington Post

In a recent announcement, it has been revealed that Sally Buzbee, the executive editor of Washington Post has stepped down from her position after 3 consecutive years. The Wall Street Journal’s former editor in chief, Matt Murray will be replacing her in the firm while Telegraph Media Group’s deputy editor, Robert Winnett shall take the position of the editor.

Sally Buzbee is the Associated Press’ former top editor. She got selected by Washington Post in 2021’s May as the Post's top editor, replacing Martin Baron who is a renowned predecessor after the Post acquired a lot of popularity during the Trump administration.

In addition, Sally served as Washington Post’s first woman executive editor, making her a great women leader in the realm. Will Lewis, the new publisher said, “To speak candidly, we are in a hole, and have been for some time. In the previous meeting, we highlighted the need to move away from the traditional one-size-fits-all approach in the news media industry and focus on creating news for a broader range of readers and customers.”

He added, “By creating three strong journalism functions — core, service/social and opinions — we are taking a definitive step away from the ‘one size fits all’ approach and moving towards meeting our audiences where they are.”
