Samsung Bioepis appoints Kim Kyung-Ah as New CEO

During announcement on November 27, 2024, Samsung Bioepis revealed about the appointment of Kim Kyung-Ah who will be taking up the position of new CEO, becoming the first woman to occupy such a role in Samsung Group.

Founded in 2012, Samsung Bioepis caters in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing industry with headquarters in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, having specialities in biosimilars, biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, regulatory affairs, clinical trials, research and development, novel biologic.

In addition, Kim has been working with this organisation for last 9 years now. Her work experience also includes Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung Electronics where she worked for 3 years as Vice President/Group Leader. Prior to these firms, Kim has also worked with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology as Principal scientist for 2 years.

On Kim’s appointment, Samsung Bioepis official stated, “She has brought together top experts from various fields of the bio industry in one direction, laying the foundation for the company to grow into a global-level biopharmaceutical R&D company in a short period." This sentiment was echoed by a pharmaceutical and bio-industry official who noted, "While former CEO Ko Han-Seung laid the foundation for Samsung Bioepis's biosimilar business, Kim will focus on enhancing R&D capabilities to expand the business into new drug development and advance the company into a global big pharma.”
