Princess Reema bint Bandar, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the US, emphasised the enormous advancements achieved in women's empowerment since the inception of the Saudi Vision 2030 reform programme at a recent panel discussion at the Atlantic Council. Princess Reema emphasised that diversity has been prioritised at the top of the national agenda, under the direction of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Princess listed many hopeful achievements, noting that Saudi Arabia now boasts higher female participation in STEM professions, more women earning advanced degrees than males, and more than 40% of small- and medium-sized enterprises being owned by women. In addition, women in the nation now get equal pay, which is a significant step towards gender parity.
Princess Reema stressed the need for more progress in gender equality and inclusion while acknowledging these good developments. She emphasised the significance of having more women in middle management, ownership, and leadership positions. The ambassador urged more funding for mentorship programmes, women's empowerment initiatives, and enterprises run by women.
Princess Reema emphasised the importance of education and training availability as driving forces behind the advancement of women. She maintained that education levels the playing field and gives women the knowledge and self-assurance they need to excel in the workforce. Education also promotes gender equality and gives women the capacity to participate more fully in family and community economic decision-making.
Princess Reema emphasised the wider societal advantages of empowering women as she concluded her speech. Saudi Arabia can build not just a more equitable and inclusive society, but also one that is more affluent, by removing obstacles and prejudices, promoting inclusiveness, and helping the next generation of women.
