In support of fostering entrepreneurial growth, HIVE, Scotland’s first women’s business incubator, has engaged over 360 women entrepreneurs for business support and mentoring, empowering women to navigate their choices with confidence. Driven by HIVE’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, 26 female-founded ventures have successfully been launched, with another 13 on track in the pipeline. Run by local authority, the initiative has gained momentum and is expected to grow in 2025.

Women engaging in HIVE, have access to free individualized coaching and mentorship funding advice. They can also benefit from tailored Business Gateway consultations and regular learning and networking events. The project is fueled by UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Scottish Government Pathways Pre-Start Fund.

Operating across various sectors, these start-ups include businesses in finance, technology, childcare, beauty, health and well-being, and creative services. To date, local women entrepreneurs in North Lanarkshire have booked 4,988 hours of workplace to launch and expand their business ventures.

Operating seven days a week with extended hours, the workplace is designed to accommodate the needs of women balancing entrepreneurship and personal commitments. The facility offers bookable desks, private offices, meeting spaces, and dedicated rooms for beauty and well-being treatments.

To ensure continued professional growth, HIVE continues to provide holistic business support and personalized coaching at no cost. As a part of the incentive strategy, the HIVE granted complimentary accommodation for six months and has now transitioned to a partially subsidized model.

Liz, of Change for Good Therapies, said: “The HIVE was a game changer for me. It’s an inspiring community of businesswomen, with free training, networking and business support.”

“Since it opened in February 2024, more than 270 women have attended 37 events held at The HIVE with many going on to access the facility’s wider services,” said Councillor Alex McVey, convener of the enterprise and fair work committee.

Mairianne, founder of Plug-In Finance, said: “It has been a transformative resource for me. The expert guidance has helped me refine my skills, equipping me with the confidence and knowledge to tackle challenges effectively.”
