The Sindh government has made the important decision to recruit female drivers for its women-only pink bus service, which is a huge step towards boosting women's safety and empowerment. The Sindh Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Memon, presided over the Sindh Mass Transit Authority's ninth board meeting, during which the decision was reached.

The main goal of this choice is to provide women a sense of convenience and safety as they travel. The discussion emphasised the necessity to start a thorough training programme for the newly recruited female drivers and emphasised the need of gender equality and women's empowerment.

The goal of the training programme is to provide these drivers the abilities and information they need to operate the pink buses safely and effectively while meeting the unique demands of female passengers. The action is a part of the government's commitment to always provide women safe and practical transit alternatives.

Model Colony and Tower will be connected by the first route of the Pink bus service, which will eventually include lines 4, 5, 6, and 7, according to Provincial Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon. In order to ensure that women have access to transit alternatives throughout the day, the service will operate every 20 minutes during business hours and then every hour after that.

The Sindh government's transport department oversaw the launch of the Pink bus service in Karachi on February 1. Minister Sharjeel Memon emphasised the value of fostering an atmosphere that encourages women to engage in the workforce and advance the nation during the official opening ceremony. The pink bus service has a predetermined charge of Rs. 50.

With two free, designated spots on each bus, the service is specifically intended to meet the requirements of those with physical disabilities. Children under the age of five will also be able to ride the pink buses for free. The capacity of each bus is 24 women in seats, with an extra 36 standing passengers allowed during peak hour.

It is anticipated that the choice to hire female drivers and offer a women-only bus service will increase the safety and accessibility of public transit for women in the area, promoting a stronger feeling of inclusiveness and equality.
