Sonia Bompastor becomes Emma Hayes' successor as Chelsea Head Coach

A confirmation has been passed regarding the of former Lyon head coach Sonia Bompastor by Chelsea as the successor of Emma Hayes. Chelsea has offered a contract to Sonia in the month of February, 2024 following her identification as the chosen candidate to replace Emma, as per Athletic report.

 With a 4-years deal, Sonia’s joining ensued after a compensation fee was paid to Lyon. Along with her, Camille Abily and Theo Rivrin are also joining from the Lyon coaching staff while interviews are in progress for other backroom coaching roles at Chelsea.

Paul Green, the general manager stated, “The sporting directors and I conducted a thorough and considered recruitment process to identify Emma’s successor. Sonia’s vision, coaching philosophy and winning mentality made her the outstanding candidate. She is a world-class coach with a proven track record of success on the biggest stages that will instantly command respect from the dressing room.”

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley also added to the statement, saying, “Sonia is the ideal candidate to build on Emma’s legacy and take the team forward. She brings a wealth of experience from managing at the highest levels and winning trophies as a player and a coach. Her ethos and values align with Chelsea Football Club. We are all looking forward to having her on board.”
