South African Femtech Startup 'Femconnect' Revolutionizes Access to Reproductive Health

By: GWL Team | Tuesday, 3 October 2023

Femconnect, a South African-based femtech firm launched in 2020 with the goal of enhancing women's access to reproductive health goods and services, was established by Anosele Kotu.

The goal of Anosele is to close the gaps in reproductive healthcare and give women the confidence they need to subtly manage their needs for sexual and reproductive health.

Family planning, period poverty alleviation, and menstrual health are the three main areas of concentration for Femconnect. Menstrual cycle tracking, product donation connections, and virtual doctor consultations are all available to users.

Femconnect has been well received despite initial skepticism as perceptions regarding femtech change. For early-stage femtech founders, like Kotu, finding financial support is still difficult. In the African IT industry, she highlights the significance of financial support for female entrepreneurs.

Kotu has big ambitions for Femconnect's future, including adding more African nations, customizing content, and adding local language support. Additionally, she wants to work with hospitals and public clinics to help the platform support telemedicine services.

Femconnect has been honored for its achievements, notably with the GovTech SITA Digital Woman award for South Africa. Startups like Femconnect show the potential of femtech innovation to have good effect, particularly in underdeveloped economies, as digital use grows across the globe.
