Following the announcement of plans for a competition starting in 2025 by governing body CONMEBOL, South America shall secure its place as the second continent after Europe to hold a qualifying tournament for the Women's World Cup.
Founded in 1916, CONMEBOL caters in the Spectator Sports industry with headquarters in Luque, Central, having specialities in Football. In addition, Continental championships traditionally catered as Women's World Cup qualifiers, keeping Europe out of the equation where UEFA holds a separate qualifying tournament.
CONMEBOL stated, “The new competition will be played between 2025 and 2026, and will provide two direct berths and two play-off berths, in addition to the one already occupied by Brazil, the host team for the next World Cup.”
Additionally, the tournament’s first edition shall witness a total of 9 teams competing in a round robin format having each team playing 4 matches at home and the other 4 away. The top two teams shall qualify directly for the Women's World Cup. On the other hand, the 3rd and 4th team shall go into intercontinental play-offs of FIFA. The Women's World Cup’s next edition is all set to begin on June 24, 2027 with final scheduled on July 25.
