South Asia's weHatbazar launched in Bangladesh

weHatbazar, small women entrepreneurs’ first online marketplace in South Asia has been launched with 100 local merchants offering domestic products in Bangladesh.

The bazar has an aim to empower women by putting F-commerce, P-commerce, and homemade products into an e-commerce setting where they shall gain maximum benefits for their work.

On May 16, 2024, the inaugural ceremony of the bazar took place at a hotel in the country capital under the auspices of Dipu Moni, the Social Welfare Minister. While delivering his speech during the event, he said, “The use of information technology is an example of how a person can change. We are witnessing the externalisation of women's creativity.”

In addition, the event also witnessed the attendance of Junaid Ahmed Palak, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister; Md Shamsul Arefin, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division; Meher Afroz Chumki, President of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League; and Souleymane Coulibaly, Lead Country Economist of the World Bank along with some other attendees.

This online marketplace shall assist and aid small women entrepreneurs to gain popularity for their work along with the increased purchase and marketing for their products. This will help them to grow in future while also ensuring the best outcome.
