Sri Lanka has declared its new Prime Minister. Harini Amarasuriya has sworn in for the position while also becoming the first ever woman to hold the office after Sirimavo Bandaranaike in the year 2000. This can be marked as a historic moment for the country.
Being a Rights Activist, Harini is also a university lecturer, making significant contribution towards social justice and education in the country. Her appointment as the PM shows Sri Lanka’s and National People’s Power (NPP)’s forwarding step towards a progressive leadership and a breakthrough for women in politics.
In addition, she has taken up the position of Prime Minister, becoming the first female to hold the position after Sirimavo took office in 1994. In the history of the country, she is also the third woman to serve in this capacity. As the PM of Sri Lanka, Harini is going to take various responsibilities and several crucial portfolios including Justice, Education, Labour, Industries, Science and Technology, Health, and Investment.
After carving her name in the history, Harini is now a beacon of inspiration for all the Sri Lankan women as well as women across the world. They will get motivated with this decision of the country.
