Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is creating the Women's National Super League (NSL) to help grow women's cricket in the nation. Beginning on February 6, the 50-over competition will pave the way for the T20 event, which is set to begin on February 15. The NSL will have four teams: Dambulla, Galle, Kandy, and Colombo.
This program intends to bring together the country's finest female cricketers, offering a platform for budding talent to display their abilities and accelerate their path to national selection. The 50-over event is a notable milestone in Sri Lankan women's cricket, promoting them to the country's best domestic league.
The NSL is set to feature 60 players and will take place in Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket feels that succeeding in the Women's National Super League will lead to national prominence.
This move follows the triumph of Sri Lanka's women's cricket squad in 2023, which was captained by Chamari Athapaththu. The squad won historic ODI and T20I triumphs against New Zealand and England, with Chamari receiving special praise for her outstanding performance. In 2023, she scored 415 runs in eight ODIs at an excellent 69.16 average, ending as the sixth-highest run-scorer with a strike rate of 125.37, showing her critical part in the team's victory.
