In light of the significant advancements in women's engagement in practically every area, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Dinesh Gunawardena stated that it is essential for Sri Lankan women to participate more actively in decision-making.
Speaking on June 17 in Colombo at the Thirteenth Top50 Women Global Economic Forum and the Top50 Global Professional and Career Women Awards 2023, he said that given the enormous contribution that women have made to achieving humanity's most noble and important projects of sustainable development goals in their own countries and beyond in this interdependent world, women's outstanding achievements are all the more impressive.
He congratulated Women in Management (WIM) and Women in Work (IFC) for hosting this award event to recognise the accomplishments of a number of female business executives from across the world. He hoped that this would serve as motivation for women in general and women in the economics sector in particular.
Congratulating the recipients, he stated that while their contributions to the global economy have advanced the cause of gender equality and women's empowerment, they have shown through their lives, labour, and leadership in many fields of economic activity. "These women leaders have made a difference, not just a small difference, but a big and critical one," he remarked.
The Prime Minister remarked, "Our awardees are eminent women who have broken glass ceilings, have pushed the boundaries of women's leadership, and have paved the way for other women and girls to follow in their footsteps and become future leaders." She also noted that these women leaders have become role models for their country's women and girls and they inspire their gender across countries and continents.
He commended the organisers for choosing the most pertinent topic, "Positioning Women's Business Leadership at the Forefront of Sri Lanka's Economic Recovery," given that the government is firmly dedicated to the policy of gender equality and women's empowerment.
