Esports is gradually opening its doors to more women after years of being primarily a boys' club. Around the world, there are several women's leagues, and organizations like the International Esports Federation (IESF) even have their own women's competitions.

In regards to the latter particularly, the IESF has confirmed that the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament will expand from four teams to ten teams in 2023 when it happens between August 24 and September 4, at the World Esports Championships Finals in Iași, Romania.

Vlad Marinescu, president of the IESF, said, “We are thrilled to announce the expansion of the women's CS:GO tournament at this year's World Esports Championships. This demonstrates the strides we have made towards esports' increased inclusivity. We eagerly anticipate what these outstanding teams will bring to the tournament this year. To provide female gamers greater possibilities to succeed on the greatest platform in the world, IESF is adamant about eradicating access restrictions.”

The top 10 women's rosters will then secure their berths in the Finals once the event's qualifying begins in May and June.
