To increase the involvement of women in the Philippines’ energy resilience, security, and innovation, the United States government announced two new initiatives through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on the occasion of Women's Day, 8 March. The initiatives will have a monetary value of P37.9 million ($690,000).

The Diwata-Women in Resource Development, Inc. and the Women Engineers Network of the Phillipine Technological Council, Inc. (PTC) was awarded the Women in Energy Leadership, Innovation, and Resilience by USAID Philippines Deputy Mission Director Rebekah Eubanks.

The Women champions in Sustainable Climate Solutions Forum was held on March 8 and 9 where more than 100 female leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs exchanged their ideas and suggestions to address climate risks.

The Deputy Mission Director Eubanks of USAID Philippines said that the leading challenges in our time are women's empowerment and climate change.

"Tanging Tanglaw: Turning IP Women into Solar Engineers" is a program started by Diwata Women in Resource Development, Inc. which teaches elderly women from indigenous communities to build and operate solar-powered pump systems. They received an amount of P29 million ($528,000).

PTC to carry out the "Women Engineers as Instruments for Sustainable Engineering in Renewable Energies (WISER Project)". They have been awarded P8.9 million ($162,000) and aim at increasing the number of girls enrolling in renewable energy engineering programmes. They will guide, and conduct technical seminars, competitions, and renewable energy campaigns in eight cities as part of the USAID Cities Development Initiative.

USAID places women at the frontline of climate action and sustainable energy development through the Energy Secure Philippines Activity in its 2022-2023 Climate Action Plan.
