Hillary Clinton & Other Global Leaders urge Bangladesh PM to 'protect' Prof Yunus

A global campaign has been launched to support Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus Khan. He is a celebrated Bangladesh-based economist and micro-finance guru. The campaign is seeking signatures from citizens across the globe in order to “protect” his work, life and safety.

Named as “Protect Yunus”, the global campaign has been initiated by 40 world leaders which includes former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton, former Mexican president Vicente Fox, musician Peter Gabriel, former NASA astronaut Ron Garan, former CEO, Rockefeller Foundation and International Herald Tribune Peter C Goldmark Jr, former US vice president Al Gore, Rotary International CEO John Hewko, Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Kerry Kennedy, 8th secretary general of the UN Ban Ki-moon, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales among others. 

Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, visits UAE amidst Russian War

The first lady of Ukraine visited the United Arab Emirates and expressed her strong support for the people of her country, which is still open to Russia despite Western sanctions.

On International Women's Day, Olena Zelenska addressed an enthusiastic ballroom and referred to her position as well as those of other first ladies and gentlemen in the globe as a genuine power. She also praised the efforts made by regular Ukrainians despite the ongoing conflict.

Woman Africa Presents N5m grant to female entrepreneurs, Urges government on improve ease of doing business

360 Woman Africa, a leadership and business skill development non-profit organization collaborated with African Industries Group (AIG), Nigeria’s steel manufacturing company has presented an N5 million grant to female entrepreneurs. The grant was given to women entrepreneurs to strengthen their businesses and it also urged the government to improve the business environment in the country.

Yvonne Ofodile, the convener of 360 Women Africa, while speaking at its 2023 Enterprise Summit and Grant Awards in Lagos, spoke of the challenges that women encounter in doing business. She said that the initiative provided socio-economic empowerment and women’s engagement through educational opportunities.

Women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan attended Dubai Exhibition looking out for international market involvement

Last week, dozens of Afghan businesswomen participated virtually in an exhibition in Dubai to showcase carpets, jewellery, dried fruit, and other handcrafted items as part of an effort to enter foreign markets after the Taliban regime in Afghanistan reduced the number of jobs available to women.

The United Nations Development Programme is sponsoring the three-day show, which started and is being held at a hotel in Dubai and features 26 female-run enterprises.
