Marina Wheeler Joins Labour as Whistleblowing Adviser

The Labour Party made an important announcement on October 8, 2023 naming Marina Wheeler as a high-profile consultant to help design its whistleblower policy. Marina Wheeler, a well-known attorney and the ex-wife of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will serve as "whistleblowing tsar."

Her major responsibility will be to advise on suggested legislation aimed at better protecting women suffering workplace harassment.

Iranian Activist Narges Mohammadi Wins Nobel Peace Prize 2023

Narges Mohammadi, a 51-year-old Iranian human rights activist, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 on October 6, honouring her heroic battle for women's rights in Iran as well as her support for human rights and freedom. Following Shirin Ebadi's triumph in 2003, this is the second time an Iranian woman has earned the Nobel Peace Prize.

Narges’ advocacy has garnered her global renown although she is currently serving a 10-year, 9-month term in Tehran's Evin Prison on accusations including propagating propaganda against the state. The prize was announced by Berit Reiss-Andersen, Chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee 2023.

Claudia Goldin awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics

Claudia Goldin, a Harvard University professor, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics on Monday for her research on women's income and employment.

Claudia, according to the Royal Swedish Academy of Science, "uncovered key drivers of gender differences in the labor market." After studying more than 200 years of US data, Claudia was able to demonstrate how education and occupation historically accounted for a large portion of the gender pay gap.

Cintas Directors on WomenInc.'s Influential List

Melanie W. Barstad and Karen L. Carnahan, renowned members of Cintas Corporation's (Nasdaq: CTAS) Board of Directors, have been named to WomenInc.'s prestigious 2023 Most Influential Corporate Board Directors list. The publications formally recognized this accolade on October 10, emphasizing their outstanding contributions to corporate governance and leadership.

Melanie is an independent director who has served on Cintas' Board of Directors since 2011. She is a member of the Board's Compensation and Nominating and Corporate Governance Committees.

Gitanjali Rao honoured at White House for Innovation

To honour International Day of the Girl on October 11, a meeting at the White House called "Girls Leading Change" was conducted. Gitanjali Rao, a remarkable Indian-American adolescent innovator, was honoured with 14 other young women leaders who have made significant contributions to their communities around the United States.

Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, presided over the ceremony and recognized these outstanding individuals for their contributions. Gitanjali Rao, a 17-year-old scientist, received acclaim for her game-changing creation, 'Tethys.'
