A rallying cry is set to be issued for women by the human rights lawyer and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s wife Cherie Blair. This cry will be for the females to have a louder voice in politics after women’s representation barely advanced in international elections of 2024 while female public figures came across increased threats of violence all across the world.
Cherie will be organising a gathering of political and business elites of the world in Davos, Switzerland despite these difficulties. She will enlighten them saying more female politicians shall lead to greater legal rights as well as economic growth.
She states in an emailed response, that boosting female representation is an ‘urgent endeavor’. She also terms that its ‘shocking and unacceptable’ that as 2025 starts, “women are significantly underrepresented in parliaments and governments.”
Furthermore, Cherie plays a group’s part with World Bank and consultancy Oliver Wyman who are arguing that there are clear connections between women’s number in government, their legal rights and participation of women in the workforce. They shall underscore their ‘Representation Matters’ report that has been published recently at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
She stated, “Last year saw a cacophony of public rhetoric, including from politicians, that sought to push the idea of women’s subservience to men and champion violence against women.”
In addition, Women, Business and the Law manager Tea Trumbic added, “One way to bring about change is by having quotas for female representation, the report notes, acknowledging that it’s a controversial approach. “Short term quotas can accelerate a slow pace of change and create accountability.”
