Traveltech Platform WeTravel debuts WeTravel Campaign For Women

By: GWL Team | Tuesday, 28 February 2023

In honour of International Women's Day and Women's History Month, WeTravel, a leading integrated tech platform designed to support multi-day travel booking and payments, will launch its We Travel For Women campaign on March 1, 2023, through its Women+ in Travel Academy. The campaign will highlight the successes and inspiring tales of 31 women in travel.

The We Travel For Women campaign will highlight 31 women in travel in keeping with the goal of International Women's Day, which is to "get the world talking about why equal opportunities are no longer enough." This will further the company's commitment, made through the Women+ in Travel Academy, to use its educational platform to share resources produced by and written by women and promote better representation in travel.

Every woman, from office managers in Amsterdam, to tour leaders in South America to tour creators in Africa, will attend the Women+ in Travel Academy for one day in March to discuss her experiences as a woman in the business and to celebrate her successes.

WeTravel's head of partnerships, Shayna Zand, stated, "Last year, we introduced a Women+ in Travel Academy under our newly established Academy with much-needed, sometimes hard-to-find women-curated tools to boost diversity and representation in tourism." While women share their stories throughout the year in the Women in Travel Academy, this month, as part of our ongoing celebration of and support for women in travel, we will highlight one inspirational woman each day to celebrate their achievements and the larger impact these women are having on equity in travel. These women range from tour guides in Latin America to business owners in Africa.

Just 15% of women occupy senior managerial roles while making up 54% of employees in the tourist industry, according to the International Tourism Organization. Despite having far fewer senior positions than males in the tourist industry, travel has a greater proportion of female senior managers than other worldwide businesses. On this International Women's Day, a greater emphasis on equity is said to be the reason for the focus on closing the gender representation gap. Every company must take deliberate steps to encourage the professional growth of women.

WeTravel's worldwide business has 150 workers and is dedicated to equity both inside the company and for its more than 3,000 international clients, including gender representation: More than 50% of them identify as female, they come from more than 40 different countries, and 25% of them are parents. More than half of the leadership roles are held by women, who work across three continents.

A Women+ in Travel Academy was introduced last year as part of the company's newly established Academy due to the platform's support for hundreds of women-run, women-led tour operators and group travel organizers. The Women+ in Travel Academy commissions writing from recognized women in the industry to publish as open-access materials to encourage improved representation in the travel industry. The portal has so far offered free materials on topics including helping Black women travel safely, explaining why free travel isn't a benefit for parents, and empowering female tour guides and entrepreneurs.

We're thrilled to serve as a platform for these women's support and their consistently inspirational tales, added Shayna. "We believe that reading these women's tales will demonstrate that more has to be done for equity in the business — and that it needs to be done right away."
