TVing Appoints Choi Ju-hui as CEO making her First Female Head in Korean Streaming Industry

Leading Korean entertainment company CJ ENM has announced the appointment of Choi Ju-hui as CEO of streaming service TVing. The move came after CEO Jay Yang resigned from his post. This makes Choi the first female CEO to lead an OTT platform in Korean so far.

Recently the merger between TVing and Seezn, a smaller streamer previously owned by KT Corp was also completed. The move is expected to save costs in marketing and help with customer acquisition, which will benefit from KT’s network of 14 million subscribers.

Choi brings a years of leadership experience from the IT industry and has earlier held key positions in Korean e-commerce companies, W Concept and Trenbe. Choi has also worked for Boston Consulting Group and Walt Disney Korea where she managed the Asian business strategy in time of Disney+’s launch in Korea.

The entertainment companu CJ ENM also appointed Kim Ji-won as the new head of Mnet Plus Business, a K-pop culture platform that was launched last year. Kim has earlier worked at Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and NCSOFT.

“The new leadership announcement is aligned with CJ ENM’s vision to become a global IP powerhouse. In addition to securing quality IPs backed by solid production capabilities, we are expanding our focus to strengthen our platform business to enhance competitiveness,” said a company spokesperson.
