UK Charity Women in Rail boardAppoints Five new trustees

UK’s networking platform, Women in Rail (WR) has appointed five new trustees to its governing board.

The announcement was made by Shona Clive, Vice-Chair of Women in Rail at the Women in Rail Awards. She welcomed Angie Doll, Sharon Salmon, Darren O’Brien, Karen Paton and Neil Robertson to the Women in Rail team.

All five newly appointed trustees are passionate supporters of WR, a platform that was founded in 2012 with the objective to improve diversity in the UK rail industry. WR renders networking opportunities & support to women and encourages diversity as a business strategy, and develops initiatives to promote rail as an attractive career choice.

“I am delighted to welcome the new trustees to the charity,” said Shona.

“Angie, Sharon, Darren, Karen and Neil are all exceptional members of the rail industry, each bringing valuable influence and experience which will not only benefit WR, but the wider industry as we continue our efforts to achieve a more gender-balanced and diverse UK rail industry.”

New member Angie Doll is the Chief Operating Officer of Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR). Sharon Salmon is the Supplier Manager (Corporate Services) for Network Rail. Darren O’Brien functions as the Deputy Head of Retail for Southeastern.Karen Paton is the Onboard Manager, Glasgow for Avanti West Coast and is the recipient of the Women in Rail Awards 2021 Inspirational Woman of the Year Award. Additionally, Neil Robertson is the Chief Executive of NSAR who joined the organisation in 2015 after serving senior roles in utility and hospitality sectors.

WR has a 7,500+ member network worldwide and brings together men and women from the UK railway sector. Though its regional groups, WR conducts regular networking events and development workshops across the UK through. It also conducts a successful cross-industry mentoring programme and senior leadership programme (SWiFT), for both female and male participants.
