United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency (UNFPA) has collaborated with European Union. This partnership shall aid more than a million of vulnerable women/girls and displaced people in Yemen which is located in West Asia. These people will be provided with life-saving reproductive health care, mental health services, emergency relief along with a funding of €10 million euros.

Janez Lenarčič, European Commissioner for Crisis Management say, “The EU will continue to stand by Yemenis who need humanitarian aid after more than eight years of unresolved conflict and crisis. This funding aims at helping women, girls and displaced people access crucial health care.”

Janez Lenarčič has been serving in this position for nearly 5 years now i.e., 2019. Earlier, he served as the Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in Europe.

He continued, “We won’t let down vulnerable Yemenis who rely on us and our partnership with UNFPA to access vital assistance in their hour of need. I call on the parties to the conflict to facilitate unhindered access and allow the delivery of urgent assistance to those in need, particularly women and children.”

UNFPA will be providing the concerned people with emergency obstetric and maternal health care in 52 health facilities and mental health services in 2 specialized psychological care centres. Through the UNFPA-led Rapid Response Mechanism, UNFPA will take care of the emergency relief supplies’ distribution amongst the newly displaced people.

Dr. Natalia Kanem who’s the Executive Director of UNFPA said, “Women and girls are paying an unacceptable price in humanitarian crises around the world, including in Yemen, where an estimated 12.6 million women and girls require reproductive health and protection services.”

He added, “UNFPA is grateful for the continued support from the European Union in helping to reach hundreds of thousands of Yemeni women and girls with lifesaving care.”

This initiative by UNFPA will turn out to be a very helpful step for the Yemen people. Perhaps this collaboration will change the situation of Yemen.
