UNICEF to set up Community-based Education Programs for Female Students in Bamyan

This community-based education initiative was started by UNICEF with funding assistance from the Asian Bank, the World Bank in South Asia, and the Humanitarian Assistance Programme of the European Union.

With the assistance of these groups, UNICEF will set up 466 classrooms for instruction to accommodate 9400 male and female students who want to pursue an education.

By the end of 2023, 21,000 of these programs will be set up across Afghanistan, according to UNICEF.

These educational initiatives come while the Taliban-run government has kept female pupils in grades six and upwards out of the classroom for more than 600 days.

In addition to making a lot of promises, the Taliban administration has not yet specified when it will allow female students to return to school in Afghanistan. Widespread criticism in Afghanistan and abroad followed the ban on female students attending secondary and post-secondary institutions.

The Taliban government has its priorities when it comes to women's work and education, despite the intense pressure from the international community and Afghanistan's neighbours.
