The aggregate wealth of America's top 100 self-made women has reached an astonishing $124.25 billion, demonstrating the expanding impact of female entrepreneurs. California emerges as a strong force in this scene, with 38 self-made female entrepreneurs amassing a remarkable $35.285 billion in fortune, accounting for more than 28% of the total acquired by their peers countrywide.
In a commentary on the Invezz statistics, financial writer Katya Stead observes that California's economic significance, contributing over 15% of the nation's wealth, corresponds with the concentration of successful female entrepreneurs in the state, home to Silicon Valley and Hollywood.
Texas and New York, in second and third place, make significant contributions to the financial narrative. Texas is home to 12 self-made female entrepreneurs with a combined net worth of $10.86 billion, accounting for 8% of the total. Meanwhile, 10 entrepreneurs in New York have amassed $5.45 billion, accounting for 4% of total wealth.
Even states with a lower percentage of self-made female entrepreneurs, such as Wisconsin, play an important role. With a combined fortune of $25.2 billion, it accounts for more than 20% of the total, and is due to powerful people such as Diane Hendricks and Judy Faulkner.
Stead acknowledges the improving economic trend for women, but emphasizes that there is still work to be done in the quest of gender equality. Despite the optimistic results, male chief executives in the United States continue to earn much more than their female colleagues, illustrating the continued obstacles in reaching equality in the economic sector.
