U.S. President Donald Trump won the elections and assumed power has been remotely criticized for his controversial decisions. In the latest order passed on Wednesday, he issued an executive directive seeking to bar transgender athletes from participating in female sports categories. Named ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ the order instructs federal agencies to enforce Title IX using Trump’s administration’s view that ‘sex’ is determined at birth.
Requiring immediate action nationwide, the mandate instructs state attorneys general to find the best enforcement methods. “With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” Trump said on Wednesday. It warns schools that allow trans women and girls in female sports risk having their federal funding revoked under the policy. The mandate is directed towards high schools, universities and grassroot level sports.
Coinciding with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the order is viewed as a part of a series of executive moves taken by the President affecting transgender people and their rights. "If you let men take over women's sports teams or invade your locker rooms, you will be investigated for violations of Title IX and risk your federal funding," Trump explained.
Trump previously signed an order preventing gender transition for those under 19 and has also criticized outgoing President, Biden’s efforts to address gender discrimination. According to NCAA President, fewer than 10 tans athletes out of 520,000 at 1,100 schools would be impacted by the order. It is worth mentioning that the 2008 Olympic Games will fall under the scope of the order.
