Indian-American, The US Senate has approved Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta for the position of Ambassador-at-Large for the State Department's Office of Global Women's Issues.
The US Senate approved Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta for the position of Ambassador-at-Large for the Office of Global Women's Issues. The Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues tweeted, "The State Department looks forward to her work to advance women's and girls' rights via US foreign policy.
Dr. Geeta has an MPhil and MA from the University of Delhi, as well as a PhD in social psychology from Bangalore University in India. According to the statement, she was a superb option for this significant role in furthering women's rights around the world due to her plethora of expertise and honours.
Dr. Geeta had been proposed for this position by US President Joe Biden, and last week she was confirmed by a vote of 51 to 47.

Dr. Geeta has collaborated closely with a number of UN organisations and initiatives. She has also served as the Executive Director of the 3D Programme for Girls and Women of the UN Foundation.
Gupta's nomination shows the US's commitment to gender equality at a time when women's basic human rights and wellbeing are under threat globally, according to, who previously served as co-chair of the UN Millennium Project Task Force on Education and Gender Equality.
According to Michelle Milford Morse, Vice President of the UN Foundation's Girls and Women Strategy, "Dr. Gupta is a widely respected leader with substantial expertise in the key areas of the Office of Global Women's Affairs. Dr. Gupta will perform this crucial position for US global leadership admirably, according to Peter Yeo, senior vice president of the UN Foundation.
